After discovering a George Maciunas piece, “(Fluxus) Fold Out” (see collection at MoMA ), and seeing an advert for an art class on campus about creative book binding/design, I can’t shake the idea. I would really like to design a collaborative project, potentially through the mail, in which a new media text is designed and created. There wouldn’t be a set topic or too defined procedures. One person, probably me the first time, would start the text. After my component is finished, I would mail it to the next person on the list, and through time and space it goes. An accompanying blog would be posted in by the designers through (and beyond) the process. Here pictures, audio, video of the process, etc. could be shared and commented on. I’m sure I’m not the first person to think of such a thing, but it still excites me greatly, having never considered it before.
